Dr. Julie Abayomi is a Senior Lecturer and Associate Head of Medicine & Nutrition at Edge Hill University. She earned her PhD in Nutrition & Dietetics from Liverpool John Moores University in 2010 and has over 20 years of clinical experience as an NHS dietitian specializing in women’s health and chronic radiation enteritis. Her research focuses on maternal nutrition, diabetes-pregnancy interactions, and weight management during pregnancy. Her work spans maternal nutrition education for midwives, dietary interventions for black pregnant women, and the impact of physical activity on maternal mental health. She has authored chapters in Mayes Midwifery (2023) and The Manual of Dietetic Practice (2024). Julie’s recent articles emphasize dietary guidelines, health inequalities, digital health tools, and physical activity benefits. Her research aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals in education and nutrition. Scientific Awards: Best Specialist Group 2025 Chair of the BDA England Board (2020-2024) She actively supervises PhD students, collaborates with Liverpool Women’s Hospital, and has presented at international conferences including Diabetes UK and ESPGHAN. Her work addresses maternal health disparities, pregnancy yoga interventions for gestational diabetes mellitus, and innovative e-learning solutions for early childhood weight management.
