Professor Victor Murinde serves as the Director of the School of Finance and Management and holds the AXA Professorship in Global Finance at SOAS University of London. He is also a Senior Fellow with extensive experience in both academic and policy-oriented research. His educational background includes a BA from Makerere University (Mak), MSc from Wales, PhD from Wales, and a Doctoris Honoris Causa from Tallinn. His academic journey has included lecturing positions at Makerere University, Cardiff University, University of Bradford, Loughborough University, and University of Manchester. Professor Murinde's research focuses on Mega Trends in Global Finance, Inclusive Finance, Financial Institutions, Markets and Instruments, and Financial Modelling & Forecasting. His current interests include FinTech and FinTech-enabled services, climate risk finance, digital inclusive finance, cross-border interbank markets, applications of AI and machine learning to finance, uncertainty and dynamics in a flow-of-funds framework, and bank performance, risk and regulation. His work bridges theoretical finance with practical applications in developing economies, particularly in Africa. An analysis of his recent publications reveals a strong focus on the intersection of finance and development, with particular attention to climate finance, digital financial inclusion, and banking systems in emerging markets. His work demonstrates a consistent trajectory toward understanding how financial systems can better serve developing economies, with increasing attention to climate vulnerability and digital transformation in finance. AXA Professor in Global Finance Doctoris Honoris Causa (Tallinn) Principal Investigator of DFID-ESRC Research Grant (ES/N013344/2) on Inclusive Finance for £2.5 million Past Chair (2015-2018) and Member (2019-2023), Econometric Society Africa Regional Standing Committee Professor Murinde has supervised numerous PhD students including Anosi Ikimalo, Aweng Peter Majok Garang Catherine Tuhirirwe, and Juliet Uluma Onyeka. He has secured significant research funding including the DFID-ESRC Research Grant on Inclusive Finance, ESRC-ICSSR project on UK-India Bilateral Trade in FinTech, and ESRC-NSCF project on Developing financial systems to support sustainable growth in China. His advisory services have been sought by international organizations including the World Bank, UN-ECA, UNCTAD, African Development Bank, BIS, and the Caribbean Development Bank. His research leadership extends to directing major projects including the Inclusive Finance project, the AXA Chair in Global Finance initiative, and research on managing climate risk and the cost of capital in climate-vulnerable countries. These projects involve collaboration with multiple institutions across the globe, reflecting his position as a leading figure in development finance research.
