Dr. Luwei Yang is a Research Fellow in the Climate and Fluid Physics group at the Research School of Earth Sciences (RSES), Australian National University (ANU). His research focuses on the impact of small-scale oceanic processes, particularly internal waves and eddies, on large-scale ocean circulation and climate dynamics. He holds a PhD from the University of Tasmania (2019) and conducted postdoctoral research at UCLA, studying eddy-wave interactions in the North Atlantic. His work combines geophysical fluid dynamics, numerical modeling (e.g., MOM6, ROMS), and observational data. Education : PhD in Quantitative Marine Science, University of Tasmania (2019) BSc in Marine Sciences, Ocean University of China (2015) Research Interests : Eddy-internal wave interactions, Southern Ocean dynamics, ocean modeling, internal tides, and their roles in climate systems. He explores energy transfer between eddies and internal waves, parameterization of ocean processes, and the influence of wind stress on circulation patterns. Publications : Dr. Yang’s recent work includes advancements in ocean modeling tools (e.g., regional-MOM6) and studies on eddy saturation mechanisms in the Antarctic Circumpolar Current. His research highlights how small-scale processes drive large-scale oceanic changes, with implications for climate modeling and Antarctic heat transport. Active in the CFP group, focusing on climate-fluid physics and ocean dynamics.
