Brittany Evans is a Senior Lecturer and Head of the Department of Criminology at Örebro University, Sweden. She holds affiliations with the School of Behavioural, Social and Legal Sciences and the Biopsychosocial Criminology and Psychology research environment. Her role includes teaching quantitative methods, biopsychosocial criminology, and psychopathology, alongside pedagogical development in the Criminology program. Evans' research focuses on biological mechanisms underlying developmental problems in youth, particularly stress-related factors such as cortisol levels, autonomic nervous system activity, and genetic influences. She explores how urbanicity and socioeconomic conditions interact with individual biology to shape behavior. Key projects include investigations into substance use, externalizing behaviors, and the relationship between depression and criminal outcomes using population-level data. Her recent articles emphasize interdisciplinary approaches, linking physiological markers like heart rate and empathy to criminal behavior. Collaborative studies with global researchers address topics ranging from adolescent pain management to gender differences in vulnerability. Ongoing projects include a population-wide analysis of neighborhood effects on substance use. Evans contributes to multiple research groups, including 'Biology of Criminal Behavior' and 'Development of Criminal Behavior Across the Lifespan.' Her work bridges criminology with neuroscience and public health, aiming to inform prevention and intervention strategies.
