Eric Harrison

Dr. Eric Harrison is a Research Fellow at City St George's, University of London, affiliated with the European Social Survey ERIC since 2006 and serving as Deputy Director since 2014. His career spans roles at the University of Plymouth (Lecturer in Sociology, 1991–2000), Nuffield College, Oxford (D.Phil, 2000–2004), and EU-funded consortiums (2004–2006). He holds a Certificate of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (University of Plymouth, 1994) and an MA in Social and Political Sciences (University of Cambridge, 1985–1988).

Research interests focus on social stratification, societal wellbeing, work and occupations, and survey methodology. His work includes cross-national ESeC development, minority ethnic representation in medical research, and attitudinal shifts toward non-traditional family structures using British Social Attitudes datasets. Publications trend toward integrating survey design, labour market dynamics, and policy evaluation.

Current roles include External Examiner at UCL (2022–present), Cardiff University (2020–present), and University of Kent (2016–2020). He contributes to editorial boards, including the International Journal of Social Research Methodology, and has advised on EU Framework Programme projects.
