Ritu Vij is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Politics and International Relations at the University of Aberdeen, School of Social Science. She joined in 2006 following a two-year fellowship at Keio University, Tokyo, funded by the Social Science Research Council (USA) and Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS). She holds a PhD from the Graduate School of International Studies at the University of Denver, USA. Her academic affiliations include several Japanese universities (Kobe, Meiji Gakuin, Meiji, Ritsumeikan, and Tokyo Universities). Her research focuses on social theory, international political economy, social policy and civil society, and affect and political subjectivity. Current work explores precarity and its implications in global contexts. She has secured research funding from the British Academy, Carnegie Trust of Scotland, British International Studies Association, and University of Aberdeen. Teaching responsibilities include postgraduate courses in International Relations Theory and Human Security, and undergraduate modules on International Political Economy and Japan's global role. She serves on key academic committees including the School Executive Council, University Senate, and coordinates the Taught Postgraduate Masters in International Relations. Publications span edited books on precarity in IR, journal articles analyzing global subjectivity and Japanese modernity, and chapters exploring heterotopias and temporal violence. Professional memberships include ISA, BISA, EISA, and IPSA, with leadership roles such as President of ISA's Global Development Section.
