Juan Manuel Asensio Gil is a Predoctoral Researcher in Bioengineering at the Technological Research Institute (IIT) of Comillas Pontifical University's School of Engineering. He joined the institute on August 9, 2022, and holds position RF4. P4.47. His research focuses on bioengineering applications for vulnerable road users and autonomous vehicle users, with expertise in human modeling, biomechanical response, optimization, and High Performance Computing. Mr. Asensio Gil earned his Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Technology Engineering (specializing in Mechanics), Master's Degree in Industrial Engineering, and Master's Degree in Mobility and Safety Engineering from Comillas Pontifical University. His research interests include: Injury mechanisms in electric scooter users Injury prevention in autonomous vehicles Development of airbags for personal mobility vehicles Safety in child restraint systems Advanced driver assistance systems in personal mobility vehicles His publication record demonstrates a strong focus on biomechanics and road safety, particularly related to vulnerable road users. His work frequently involves numerical analysis, experimental testing, and human modeling to understand injury mechanisms and develop prevention strategies, with significant contributions to cervical airbag effectiveness and e-scooter safety research. Notable awards include: Grant for his doctoral thesis "Biomechanics of Injuries in Electric Scooter Users" from ICAI Engineers Association (Sept 2025-Present) Young Scientist Award 2022 from Carhs GmbH Scholarship for the International Advanced Course on Injury Biomechanics from SAFER He has collaborated on numerous research projects with MAPFRE, Fundación Mapfre, Adamo Robot, and other institutions, bridging academic research with practical vehicle safety applications. His media appearances include discussions on "Digital Twins for Road Safety Injury Prevention" at Vital Safety 5.0.
