Rubia Valente is an Associate Professor at the Marxe School of Public and International Affairs, Baruch College (CUNY), with a research focus on applying advanced quantitative methods to analyze socioeconomic inequalities and policy impacts on marginalized groups. Her expertise spans Urban Studies , Happiness Studies , Race/Ethnicity , and Social Indicators , with regional emphasis on Latin America and Brazil . She earned her Ph.D. in Public Policy and Political Economy from The University of Texas at Dallas and has held post-doctoral and visiting roles at UT Dallas and Princeton University. Her grants include PSC-CUNY awards for urban-rural happiness gradients and skin tone measurement in Brazil. Scientific Awards : Dean's Research Award (2024), Washington Brazil Office Fellow (2022), Presidential Excellence Award for Distinguished Teaching (2021), NSF Summer Course Grant (2017), and multiple teaching honors. Service : Co-Director for Baruch's Quantitative Methods Certificate Program, BRASA Executive Committee member, and facilitator for Urban Affairs Association workshops. Research Trends : Her work bridges quantitative policy analysis with subjective well-being , examining how race , class , and gender intersect with access to education, housing, and political participation. Recent projects explore urbanization effects and generational happiness patterns . Rubia is currently on sabbatical (2025) and maintains active roles in editorial work, conference organization, and public scholarship through podcasts and media contributions.
