Hesham Fahmy is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at South Dakota State University's College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions. His academic roles include teaching core courses such as Medicinal Chemistry I/II, Pharmacology, and advanced graduate-level drug discovery modules. He holds a Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry and has extensive experience in drug design targeting neuroendocrine and oncological disorders. His research focuses on developing novel small molecules as corticotropin-releasing factor receptor antagonists, T-/L-type calcium channel blockers, and marine-derived natural products for chemoprevention. Key areas include skin cancer prevention using cembranoid derivatives and structure-based design of anticancer agents. He has secured patents for salvinorin analogs and cembranoid chemopreventive compounds. Fahmy's work bridges synthetic organic chemistry with pharmacological evaluation, emphasizing translational research. His lab explores synergistic drug combinations for enhanced cancer therapy and investigates mechanisms of action for natural product-derived compounds. He actively contributes to curricular development and assessment committees within the College. Education: B.S. Pharmacy, M.S. Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Ph.D. Medicinal Chemistry Active patents: WO 2006012643, WO 2003095404 Key research programs: CRF receptor antagonists development, marine natural products' anticancer potential
