Cagla Eroglu is a Professor of Cell Biology and Neurobiology at Duke University, where she holds the Duke Health Distinguished Professorship. She is affiliated with the Duke Institute for Brain Sciences, Duke Regeneration Center, and Duke Initiative for Science & Society.
Research Focus: Her work explores how astrocytes regulate synaptogenesis and neural circuit function in health and disease. Key areas include:
- Astrocyte development and morphogenesis
- Synapse formation and plasticity
- Neurodevelopmental disorders (e.g., autism, Huntington’s disease)
- Neurodegenerative mechanisms (e.g., Parkinson’s disease)
Recent Publications highlight tools like GEARBOCS for astrocyte gene editing, SynBot for synapse quantification, and mechanistic studies on thrombospondin-α2δ-1 and ATP13A4 pathways. She was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (2024) and recognized as an HHMI Investigator (2021).
Grants include leadership in the NIH BRAIN Initiative U19 Program and multidisciplinary funding from NINDS and NIMH. Her lab fosters collaboration, innovation, and mentorship, with a focus on translating glial biology to therapeutic strategies.
