Julien Fessler, M.D., is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Anesthesiology at Weill Cornell Medical College, Cornell University. He serves as an Assistant Attending Anesthesiologist at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, focusing on perioperative medicine, regional analgesia, and complementary therapies in thoracic surgery and lung transplantation. His academic career emphasizes education, mentoring trainees, and leadership in national/international societies. Fessler completed his medical degree at University Paul Sabatier in Toulouse, France (2010), followed by residency at the University of the Antilles (2015) and thoracic/lung transplantation fellowships in Paris and Marie Lannelongue Hospital. He is board-certified in France for anesthesia and intensive care medicine. Research interests include enhanced recovery after surgery , acute/chronic postoperative pain management , and perioperative protocols for lung transplantation . His work spans clinical trials, consensus guidelines, and translational studies, with recent publications on ECMO, ECLS, transfusion strategies, and pain trajectories. He coordinates the Perioperative Care for Lung Transplantation Webinar , reaching 67 centers across 30 countries. Clinically, he specializes in thoracic and regional anesthesia , supported by fluency in English, French, and Spanish . Global health efforts include teaching vascular anesthesia in Africa and trauma care in Yemen with Doctors Without Borders.
