Elizabeth Hill, PhD is a Professor in the Department of Public Health Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) College of Medicine. She serves as Director of the Biostatistics Shared Resource (BSR) at the Hollings Cancer Center, a position she has held since 2017 with a brief interruption when she served as Statistical Director of the Early Phase Oncology Program at Eli Lilly and Company in 2020. Dr. Hill returned to MUSC in January 2021 to resume her directorship of the BSR and continues to hold a tenured professorship. Dr. Hill earned her PhD and MS from Emory University in 2002 and 2001, respectively. Prior to her academic career at MUSC, she worked as a Mathematical Statistician for Northrop Grumman (formerly TRW, Inc.) as a CDC contractor from 2001-2003. Her academic progression at MUSC includes Assistant Professor (2003-2010), Associate Professor (2010-2018), and Professor (2018-present), with additional leadership roles including Vice Chair for Academic Programs (2015-2017). Dr. Hill's research spans the oncology research continuum, with expertise in biostatistics applied to cancer clinical trials, epidemiology, and health disparities. Her work demonstrates strong methodological innovation in Bayesian statistics, longitudinal data analysis, and spatial statistics for cancer research. She has extensive experience collaborating with cancer center investigators on designing bench experiments, early phase clinical trials, and analyzing data from laboratories and large-scale epidemiologic databases. Her research particularly focuses on head and neck cancer care delivery, treatment delays, and health disparities affecting minoritized communities. Analysis of Dr. Hill's recent publications reveals a consistent trajectory in biostatistical methodology development applied to cancer research questions, with particular emphasis on health disparities, treatment adherence, and innovative statistical approaches to complex clinical data. Her work bridges methodological innovation with practical clinical applications, often focusing on improving equity in cancer care delivery. Dr. Hill has served as biostatistics core director (PI or co-PI) for multi-project grants (P01 and U54) and center grants (P30s), demonstrating a strong track record of continuous funding as co-investigator with numerous cancer center investigators. Her leadership extends to directing the Biostatistics Shared Resource, which provides essential statistical support to cancer researchers across the institution. Dr. Hill leads the Biostatistics Shared Resource team at the Hollings Cancer Center, providing statistical expertise and collaboration to cancer researchers across MUSC. Her resource supports the design, implementation, and analysis of cancer-related research studies, contributing significantly to the institution's NCI-designated cancer center status.
