Will Zhao is an Associate Professor of Organization and Human Behavior at the Stratford School of Interaction Design and Business, University of Waterloo. He holds cross-appointments with the Department of Management Science and Engineering and the Department of Systems Design Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering. He earned his PhD from EMLYON Business School (France) and completed postdoctoral research at Stanford University as a SCANCOR scholar. His work focuses on Human-Centered Innovation Research (HCIR), bridging social sciences, engineering, and the arts to address societal challenges. Research Themes: Organizational Innovation : Exploring innovation dynamics in complex environments. Technology Governance : Ethical and regulatory challenges of emerging technologies like AI. Applied AI/XR : Designing human-centered applications in healthcare, education, and arts. Teaching: Courses include GBDA 402 (Capstone), MDEI 612 (Organizational Behavior), and MDEI 625 (Business Innovation). He has received multiple teaching and research awards at University of Waterloo. Collaborations : Partnerships with Nottingham University (UK), HOPE (USA), and National Cheng Kung University (Taiwan). Active in industry and community collaborations via the HCIR team. Advising : Supervises doctoral and master's students across disciplines, including cross-border co-supervision. Active mentor in innovation and entrepreneurship programs.
