Frank Lu is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Binghamton University. He leads the Biophotonics and Translational Optical Imaging Lab, which develops novel optical technologies for imaging living systems to improve understanding, diagnosis, and intervention of human diseases, particularly cancer and neuro-oncology. Research focuses on three main areas: 1) Stimulated Raman Imaging for label-free pathology and image-guided neurosurgery; 2) Live-cell imaging for cancer lipid metabolism studies; and 3) Imaging drug delivery using SRS microscopy with Raman tags. His lab combines advanced microscopy techniques with AI-based analysis for improved cancer diagnostics. Lu holds a BS and MS from Zhejiang University and a PhD from the National University of Singapore. His research has earned several awards including the NIH Pathway to Independence Award and the SPIE Best Poster Award. Recent publications demonstrate advancements in AI-powered SRS pathology and Raman-tagged drug delivery imaging. Awards: First Place Art of Science Competition (2021) SSD Recognition Honoree (2020) Best Poster Award SPIE Photonics West BiOS (2020) NIH K99/R00 Pathway to Independence Award (2015-20)
