Dr. MinJun Kim is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering and holds the Robert C. Womack Endowed Chair at Southern Methodist University's Lyle School of Engineering. He also holds a courtesy appointment in Electrical and Computer Engineering. With a Ph.D. from Brown University and postdoctoral training at Harvard University, his research focuses on nanobiotechnology, micro/nanorobotics, and single-molecule biophysics. His lab, BAST Labs, pioneers advancements in nanopore technology, micro/nanofluidics, and soft robotics.
Education: B.S. (Yonsei University), M.S. (Texas A&M), Ph.D. (Brown University), Postdoc (Harvard University). Former roles include Professor at Drexel University (2006–2018).
Research interests include: thermal/fluid mechanics, microbiorobotics, single-cell analysis, and biomedical applications of nanotechnology. Over 150 peer-reviewed articles showcase his work in nanopore-based biosensors, magnetic microswimmers, and biomimetic systems.
Awards include NSF CAREER Award (2008), Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship (2011), and AIMBE Fellow (2024). His grants total over $10M in federal and industry funding. Advising focuses on interdisciplinary projects in robotics and nanotechnology.
Labs/Teams: BAST (Bio-Acoustic and Smart Technology) Lab, leading initiatives in smart nanobiosensors and microscale robotics.
