Lois Weinthal is a Professor and Graduate Program Director at the School of Interior Design, Toronto Metropolitan University. Her academic career spans roles at institutions like Parsons The New School for Design and The University of Texas at Austin. She holds an MArch from Cranbrook Academy of Art and a BArch from Rhode Island School of Design. Her research explores intersections between architecture, interiors, and material culture. Key interests include interior design theory, digital fabrication, and post-pandemic spatial practices. Her 2011 anthology Toward a New Interior redefined interior theory and won the IDEC Book Award. She co-edits the Interiors: Design/Architecture/Culture journal and has secured grants from SSHRC, Graham Foundation, and DAAD. Recent work includes SSHRC-funded projects on digital fabrication in interior design and pandemic-informed design strategies. Her exhibitions such as Interior Archipelago blend theory and practice, addressing global spatial narratives. Awards recognize her contributions to design education and creative scholarship.
