Yago Ascasibar Sequeiros is a Professor in the Department of Theoretical Physics within the Faculty of Sciences at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM), Spain. He has been serving as a Profesor Contratado Doctor since December 2018, following his tenure as a Ramón y Cajal researcher at UAM from January 2012 to December 2018. His academic journey includes postdoctoral positions at UAM, the Astrophysical Institute Potsdam (AIP) in Germany, the Center for Astrophysics (CfA) in the USA, and the University of Oxford, UK. Dr. Ascasibar earned his Ph.D. in January 2003 from UAM with a thesis titled 'A Theoretical Perspective on Galaxy Clusters: Physical Properties of the Dark Matter and Baryons.' Prior to this, he completed his M.Sc. thesis 'Star Formation on Cosmological Scales' in June 2000 and obtained his B.Sc. in Physics from UAM in June 1998. His research spans multiple areas of Extragalactic Astrophysics, with particular focus on galaxy formation and evolution, dark matter structure, star formation processes, chemical evolution of galaxies, and numerical methods. He approaches these topics through theoretical frameworks while maintaining strong connections with observational data across various wavelengths. His work often involves collaborations with observational astronomers and scientists from other disciplines including mathematics and particle physics. Analysis of his recent publications reveals a strong emphasis on computational astrophysics, galaxy evolution studies using large surveys like Euclid, gamma-ray astronomy with the Cherenkov Telescope Array, and development of specialized software tools for astronomical data analysis. His research shows a consistent trajectory from theoretical foundations to practical applications in modern observational contexts. Dr. Ascasibar has supervised multiple graduate students, including Ph.D. candidates, Master's students, and undergraduate researchers, focusing on topics related to dark matter, galaxy formation, and computational astrophysics. He has been principal investigator or co-investigator on numerous research projects funded by Spanish and international agencies, including projects totaling over €120,000 focused on starbursts throughout cosmic evolution. He actively contributes to astronomical outreach through extension courses, public talks, media appearances, and scientific translations for popular science publications. His 'politeware' philosophy reflects his approach to scientific software development, emphasizing open sharing of code with minimal restrictions while maintaining academic credit norms.
