Dr Matthias Maischak is a Reader in the Department of Mathematics at Brunel University London within the College of Engineering, Design and Physical Sciences . His research focuses on elliptic boundary value problems , transmission problems , Signorini problems , and variational inequalities , with emphasis on boundary and finite element methods , fast solvers , and adaptive algorithms . He is also a key developer of the MaiProgs software package, which implements advanced numerical techniques for engineering applications. Research Areas : Boundary Element/FEM Methods, Contact Mechanics, Adaptive Algorithms, High-Performance Computing, Retarded Potential Analysis Supervision : Ph.D. and MSc students in computational mathematics, including projects on shape analysis, discontinuous Galerkin methods, and boundary integral equations. Publications span topics like dual-dual formulations , FE-BE coupling , hp-adaptive methods , and error estimation in linear elasticity and acoustic fluid-structure interaction . He has co-authored works on nonlinear interface conditions and time-domain boundary element methods , with applications to microstructure analysis , elastoplastic contact , and singular perturbations .
