Dr. Nelaine Mora-Diez is a Professor of Chemistry at Thompson Rivers University (TRU), Kamloops, BC, Canada. She holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Dalhousie University and a B.Sc. (First-Class Honors) in Chemistry from the University of Havana. Her academic career at TRU spans over two decades, progressing from Assistant Professor (2003–2010) to Associate Professor (2010–2014) and Professor (since 2014). She also held an Adjunct Professor position at the University of Victoria (2006–2015). Her research focuses on computational chemistry, including antioxidant activity, biochemical kinetics, deuterium isotope effects, and environmental chemistry. She has secured significant funding through NSERC Discovery Grants, TRU internal grants, and international collaborations. Notable recognitions include the Anderson Award for Excellence in Chemical Research (2019) and the Mourou/Strickland Mobility Program (2020). Mora-Diez has advised numerous students, mentoring them in research areas such as protein radical repair, cannabinoid chemistry, and metalloantioxidant mechanisms. Her work has been showcased in over 30 peer-reviewed publications and international conferences. She also contributes to academic service, including roles in TRU’s Research Training Recognition Fund and undergraduate research programs. Her lab at TRU utilizes high-performance computing resources like the Francis cluster, supported by IT Services and the Digital Research Alliance of Canada. Collaborations span institutions in Spain, France, Mexico, and beyond, reflecting her global impact in computational and theoretical chemistry.
