Zwierlein Otto is a distinguished scholar in Classical Philology, holding the rank of Professor Emeritus at the University of Bonn. His career includes professorships at Universität Bonn (1979–2004) and Universität Hamburg (1971–1979). He earned his Dr. phil. in Classical Philology from Freie Universität Berlin (1965) and completed Habilitation in Classical and Medieval Latin Philology at FU Berlin (1970).
His research focuses on early Christian texts like the First Epistle of Clement, Latin comedies (Plautus/Terentius), Seneca's tragedies, and the dating of the New Testament. He also investigates Christian persecutions in antiquity and figures like Ignatius of Antioch.
