Research Focus: Simic interrogates monolithic feminist narratives, emphasizing intersections of class, race, and ethnicity. Her work spans two major collaborations: a history of domestic violence in Australia (with Ann Curthoys and Catherine Kevin) and an intimate history of postwar migration (with Ruth Balint). Publications bridge History and Gender Studies, often challenging dominant discourses through archival analysis and cultural critique.
Publication Trends: Recent works examine domestic violence historiography, migration experiences, and feminist theory. Earlier articles analyze suburban identity, popular culture, and the gendered dimensions of Australian media and literature.
Awards:
- Selected as one of the best essays of 2016 by Sydney Review of Books editors
Teaching & Supervision: Courses include Global Feminisms, Gendered Worlds, and History of Sexuality. Supervision topics cover colonial human curiosities, migrant-Indigenous relations, and cultural activism.
