Zohir Chowdhury is an Associate Professor in Environmental Health at the Graduate School of Public Health, San Diego State University (SDSU), and serves as Undergraduate Program Director. He holds affiliations with SDSU's College of Health and Human Services and the School of Public Health. His work focuses on air pollution, climate change, and public health interventions in both developed and developing nations.
Education: PhD in Atmospheric Chemistry (Georgia Tech, 2004), MS in Environmental Engineering (Caltech, 2000), BS in Environmental Engineering (Montana Tech, 1997). His research spans over 20 years, with international experience in Bangladesh, India, Cameroon, and Guatemala.
Research interests include particulate matter exposure, indoor/outdoor air quality, and health impacts of environmental pollutants. Notable studies include casino smoke-free policies, microchip-based air sensors, and climate change mitigation strategies. Over 35 peer-reviewed articles and technical reports highlight his contributions to environmental health science.
Grants: Principal Investigator on projects funded by California Air Resources Board, OEHHA, and NIH, totaling over $2M. Awards include SDSU's Outstanding Faculty Award (2012, 2014, 2016) and Leadership in Science Education.
Service: Science Olympiad mentor, curriculum developer, and member of SDSU's Academic Senate. International collaborations include studies in India, Bangladesh, and Chile.
