Zohar Goshen is the Jerome L. Greene Professor of Transactional Law at Columbia Law School, Columbia University. He holds a full-time faculty position and focuses on corporate law, governance, securities regulation, and corporate finance. His academic contributions include widely recognized articles in top legal journals, such as Barbarians Inside the Gates (2022) and The Death of Corporate Law (2019). He has been honored with the Willis L.M. Reese Prize for Excellence in Teaching in 2006 and 2019, making him only the third repeat recipient.
Education: S.J.D. (1991), LL.M. (1990), Yale Law School; LL.B. (1987), Hebrew University.
Research interests center on corporate governance reforms, securities regulation, and the intersection of law and economics. His work often addresses contemporary challenges like shareholder activism, common ownership effects on labor markets, and regulatory frameworks for financial markets. He previously served as Chairman of the Israel Securities Authority (2008–2011), implementing major corporate governance reforms and establishing a specialized corporate court.
He co-directs the Center for Israeli Legal Studies, fostering academic exchange through lectures, seminars, and conferences. Current courses include Corporate Governance and the Public Corporation and Advanced Corporate Law: Control Changes and Challenges.
Key achievements include advancing legal scholarship on corporate law’s evolving role, reforming Israeli corporate law, and contributing to securities regulation discourse. His research bridges theoretical insights with practical regulatory challenges, shaping both academic and policy landscapes.
