Zoe Redshaw is a Lecturer in Anatomy and Physiology at De Montfort University, affiliated with the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences and the School of Allied Health Sciences. She serves as Deputy Programme Leader for the Medical Science (BMedSci) program and is the Employability Champion, promoting professional skill development among students.
Education:
- PhD in Biological Sciences – University of Birmingham
- BSc (Hons) in Biological Sciences – Coventry University
Her research focuses on adult stem cell biology, particularly muscle stem cells, ageing, sarcopenia, and regeneration. She investigates how ageing affects muscle regeneration, the role of microRNAs in stem cell regulation, and how environmental factors like oxygen levels influence stem cell differentiation into muscle or fat cells. Her work bridges molecular biology and physiological outcomes in both human and animal models.
The key trends across her publications include stem cell plasticity, age-related decline in regenerative capacity, molecular regulation via miRNAs, hormonal effects on muscle protein synthesis, and comparative studies using porcine and murine models. Her research contributes to understanding the mechanisms behind sarcopenia and potential therapeutic interventions.
Dr. Redshaw teaches across undergraduate programs in Medical Science and Biomedical Science, covering core topics such as Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, and Evidence-Based Medicine. She integrates research-informed teaching to enhance student learning and employability.
Research Affiliation:
