Zoe Butterfint is a Professor of Health Sciences Education at the University of East Anglia (UEA) and serves as the Associate Pro-Vice Chancellor of Partnerships & Apprenticeships. She oversees quality assurance for UEA’s education programs with external partners and leads the Speech & Language Therapy programs in the School of Health Sciences, focusing on phonetics and phonology via Problem-Based Learning.
- Education: PhD in Forensic Phonetics and MA in Linguistics from the University of Manchester, PGCert in Higher Education Practice from UEA.
- Research Focus: Auditory and acoustic speech analysis, particularly dysarthria in stroke and Parkinson’s disease, alongside pedagogic approaches like Problem-Based Learning and professionalism in higher education.
- Leadership: Held roles including Director of Education Strategy (2014–2020), Academic Director of Partnerships & Apprenticeships (2020–2021), and current Chair of UEA Apprenticeship Governance Committee.
Scientific Awards: Recipient of UEA Excellence in Teaching Awards (2015, 2009).
- Articles (2015–2019): Explored dysarthria in neurodegenerative conditions, speech intelligibility, and educational pedagogy, with systematic reviews in Cochrane Database and BMJ Open.
External Engagements: Board member at The Royal Marsden School, examiner for Trinity College Dublin, and contributor to clinical guidelines on dysarthria interventions.
