Zinnia Mukherjee

Zinnia Mukherjee is a Professor of Economics at Simmons University's School of Management, serving as Program Director for the Master in Public Policy (MPP) program and Chair of the Faculty Fiscal Affairs Committee (2021–present). She holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Connecticut (2009), an MSc from the University of Calcutta (2003), and a BSc from the same institution (2001). Her research focuses on environmental economics, sustainable development, and public policy, with emphasis on marine resource management, climate change impacts, and corporate social responsibility.

Dr. Mukherjee teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in economics, public policy, and environmental leadership, including interdisciplinary courses like 'Climate Change and Boston' and 'Environmental Leadership in the 21st Century.' She advises MPP students on capstone projects and mentors research assistants on her studies of fisheries management, carbon emissions, and sustainable energy policies. Her work has been supported by grants from Simmons University and recognized with awards like the 2018 Professor of the Year and the 2011 Marine Resource Economics Outstanding Article Award.

Her research spans diverse topics such as hypoxia effects on fisheries, trade policy impacts on environmental outcomes, and the economic efficiency of fisheries. She has presented at conferences including the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists, and her findings appear in journals like Marine Resource Economics and Renewable & Sustainable Energy Reviews.
