Zijian ZHENG

Professor Zijian Zheng serves as Chair Professor of Soft Materials and Devices at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, holding leadership positions including Director of the PolyU-Daya Bay Technology and Innovation Research Institute and Associate Director of both the Research Institute for Intelligent Wearable Systems and University Research Facility in Materials Characterisation and Device Fabrication.

His research pioneers advancements in polymer science, flexible/wearable/on-skin/implantable electronics, and interfacial science, with focus on developing skin-attachable, implantable devices and flexible batteries. These innovations target transformative applications in soft electronics through fundamental interfacial science and advanced fabrication techniques.

Professor Zheng's distinguished honors include:

• Founding Member of the Hong Kong Young Academy of Sciences (2018)
• Founding Member of The Young Member Section of The Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Sciences (2023)
• Fellow of the International Association of Advanced Materials
• Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry

As an RGC Senior Research Fellow, he directs substantial research funding toward commercialization efforts, exemplified by founding a high-tech startup for flexible battery technology. His innovation ecosystem engagement spans serving as Treasurer of the Hong Kong Materials Research Society and founding Editor-in-Chief of the flagship journal EcoMat.

Professor Zheng leads cross-institutional research teams through the PolyU-Daya Bay Technology and Innovation Research Institute, Research Institute for Intelligent Wearable Systems, and Materials Characterisation Facility, driving collaborative projects in wearable tech and sustainable materials development.
