Zhijiang Lu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Science and Geology at Wayne State University (2021–present). Previously, he held an Assistant Professor position at Zhejiang University, China (2018–2021) and postdoctoral roles at the University of California, Riverside (2016–2017) and MIT (2014–2016). He earned his Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences from UC Riverside (2014) and B.S. from Peking University (2009).
His research focuses on the environmental fate of organic pollutants, including pesticides, plastic additives, and pharmaceuticals. Key areas include analysis of pollutant occurrence in soil/water/sediments, biotic/abiotic transformation mechanisms, and nontarget screening. He leads the Zhijiang Lu Research Group, emphasizing risk assessment and treatment process design through mechanistic studies.
Recent work highlights microplastic aging, pollutant co-occurrence risks, and biochar-driven degradation. Over 50 peer-reviewed articles span topics like microplastic dynamics, bioremediation, and pollutant transformation pathways. Courses taught include Environmental Geochemistry, Soil Pollution, and Emerging Contaminants.
