Z. Jay Wang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Finance at the University of Oregon's Lundquist College of Business. He serves as the Head of the Department of Finance and holds the Alumni Investment Management Research Scholar title. His research focuses on asset management, institutional investors, and market liquidity.

His current research projects explore hedge fund fee dynamics, portfolio leverage decisions, managerial incentives in risk-taking, mutual fund performance impacts of manager promotions/demotions, private equity club deals, and insider ownership patterns in hedge funds. Recent articles analyze municipal bond liquidity, corporate bond fire sales, and closed-end fund discount mechanisms, reflecting his expertise in financial markets and institutional behavior.
Wang has previously held positions as Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2005–2012) and Research Economist at the National Bureau of Economic Research (2015–2017). He is affiliated with multiple research centers including the Cameron Center for Finance and Securities Analysis and the Lundquist Center for Entrepreneurship.
