Zheng Dong is a Regents’ Professor and Leon H. Charbonnier Endowed Chair at the Medical College of Georgia of Augusta University, holding a part-time academic appointment. He serves as a Senior Research Career Scientist at the Department of Veterans Affairs and Director of Research & Development at Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center. Dr. Dong’s work focuses on kidney injury, protection, and repair mechanisms.
- Education: Ph.D. in Physiology (Shanghai Institute of Physiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, 1994); B.Sc. in Microbiology (Fudan University, 1989)
Research Interests center on mitochondrial dynamics, autophagy, and epigenetic regulation in acute and diabetic kidney diseases. His lab investigates DNA damage responses, cell death pathways, and therapeutic strategies targeting these mechanisms.
