Zhaoyang Fan

Dr. Zhaoyang Fan is a tenured Associate Professor of Radiology and Director of Magnetic Resonance (MR) Imaging Research at the Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California (USC). He holds joint appointments in Biomedical Engineering, Radiation Oncology, and Pediatrics, and is a member of the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Education: PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Northwestern University; BS from Tsinghua University. Prior roles include Associate Professor at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and Technical Director of 3-Tesla MR at UCLA’s Research Imaging Core.

Research focuses on developing novel MR and machine learning methods for disease assessment, including cardio- and neurovascular diseases, cancer imaging, and radiation therapy guidance. Over 150 peer-reviewed publications and 260+ conference abstracts. NIH-funded projects, and active reviewer for funding agencies and journals.

Recent articles emphasize advancements in MR Multitasking for multi-organ imaging, quantitative biomarkers (e.g., DSC-MRI for gliomas), and clinical applications like stroke evaluation and tumor response monitoring. Awards include Distinguished Investigator (2022), Fellow of SCMR (2018), and ISMRM Junior Fellow (2013).
