Zhaoxia Zhou

Dr. Zhaoxia Zhou serves as a Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Materials at Loughborough University, specializing in transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and responsible for daily operations at the Loughborough Materials Characterisation Centre. She provides critical research support to academic teams and consultancy services to industrial clients.

• PhD from Institute of Metal Research, University of Sheffield

Research Expertise: Dr. Zhou's work centers on heterogeneous integration of materials in electronic packaging to optimize thermal, electrical, and mechanical performance. With over 20 years of experience, she employs advanced characterization techniques including electron/ion microscopy, X-ray, and laser-based methods. Her collaborative research spans engineering alloys, functional ceramics, Li-ion batteries, semiconductors, tribological coatings, nanoparticles, Pb-free solders, polymer composites, bacteriophages, and human muscle biopsies.

Research Leadership: As an independent investigator holding multiple research grants, Dr. Zhou has extensive experience with major EPSRC and European Framework projects. Her expertise supports cross-disciplinary research across physical and life sciences, with regular access to national facilities including Diamond Light Source and SuperSTEM since 2004.

Facility Management: She maintains pivotal operational responsibility for TEM infrastructure at the Loughborough Materials Characterisation Centre, enabling cutting-edge materials analysis for academic and industrial partners.
