Zhang Zuxiao is an Assistant Professor in the Chemistry Department at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. Born and raised in China, he earned a Master of Science in Organic Chemistry from the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry under Professor Guosheng Liu, followed by a Ph.D. at the University of Florida (2016) under Professor William R. Dolbier Jr. He then joined the Nagib group at Ohio State University as a postdoctoral research associate (2017–2021) before starting his independent career at Zhejiang Normal University in 2021 and transitioning to the University of Hawai‘i in 2023.
Research Interests:
- Drug discovery-directed organic synthesis methodology development
- Fluorine chemistry
- Radical chemistry
- Asymmetric catalysis
- Regio- and enantioselective C-H functionalization
Publications Trends: His recent work focuses on enabling late-stage functionalization of complex drug molecules, leveraging copper-catalyzed radical relay and multicomponent cascade reactions. Key themes include fluorine chemistry, asymmetric catalysis, and selective functionalization of inert bonds like C-H and C-F.
