Zhang Yue is an Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) and an affiliated faculty member of the Global Asian Studies (GLAS) program. She holds a PhD in Politics from Princeton University and a B.A. in International Relations from Peking University. Her research focuses on the intersection of comparative and urban politics, with emphases on urban governance, political economy of development, and global migration in the Global South.

Research Interests: Zhang’s work examines urbanization dynamics in China, India, Brazil, France, and the U.S., exploring themes like informal housing governance, metropolitan policy, and infrastructure development. She has conducted policy analyses for organizations such as the World Bank and UNESCO.

- Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars Fellowship (2015–16)
- Norton Long Young Scholar Award (APSA Urban Politics Section, 2009)
- Stone Scholar Award (APSA Urban Politics Section, 2010)
Grants & Projects: Recipient of the Mellon Foundation’s “Humanities Without Walls” Global Midwest Grant (2016–18). Current research includes a book manuscript on informal housing in China, India, and Brazil, and a photo-documentary project on postindustrial cities in the Midwest and China.
Labs/Teams: Leads research initiatives on global urbanization and serves as Co-Editor of Urban Affairs Review and the Urban Life, Landscape, and Policy book series with Temple University Press.
