Zeynep Gürgüç

Dr Zeynep Gürgüç is a Lecturer in Digital Economy at Queen Mary University of London’s School of Business and Management. She holds a PhD in Economics from Universitat Pompeu Fabra and an MA in International Relations from Johns Hopkins University. Prior to her current role, she worked as a Research Fellow at Imperial College, Visiting Lecturer at UCL, and Lecturer at Universidad Carlos III, alongside consulting for the World Bank. Her research focuses on experimental and behavioral economics, applied microeconomics, and game theory, with applications in digital economy innovations, energy sustainability, and blockchain technologies. She investigates how new technologies like blockchain can drive climate change mitigation and energy policy reforms.

Zeynep collaborates with Digital Catapult London on disruptive blockchain business models and previously held a Researcher in Residence position there (2018–2019). She actively engages with industry through speaking at events like Oslo Innovation Week, Token Engineering London, and London Tech Week. Her work on energy demand management was featured in the Washington Post, highlighting her influence in policy-relevant research.

She teaches postgraduate courses such as BUSM 132 (Complex Networks and Innovation) and BUSM 191 (Blockchain’s Social Justice Potential), and supervises PhD students in behavioral economics, digital economy, and climate change. Current research includes a King Climate Action Initiative grant exploring smart plug adoption for demand-side energy management in India.
