Zari Hedayat, PhD is an Adjunct Professor at Antioch University Los Angeles, specializing in trauma-informed and cross-cultural psychotherapy. Since 1994, she has held various roles including interim director of the Trauma Specialization Program (2014–2015), Affiliate Faculty for the Child Specialization (2015–2022), and primary supervisor for the LGBTQ Youth Program at AUCC (2015–2020). She serves as Clinical Director of Open Paths Counseling Center since 2016.

Research Interests
Dr. Hedayat’s work bridges trauma psychology, Islamic religious practices, and socio-cultural influences on mental health. She focuses on culturally affirmative therapy for marginalized populations, particularly LGBTQ+ youth and Muslim communities, integrating psychoanalytic frameworks with spiritual health.
Training & Presentations
She has conducted trauma neurobiology training at the Los Angeles Psychoanalytic Institute and delivered workplace trauma-informed workshops at Sony, Youth Orchestra LA, and Camino Nuevo Academy Charter Schools.
Publications
Contributed chapters to the Handbook for Psychotherapy and Religious Diversity (APA, 2014) and published on Koranic selfobject theory in the International Journal for the Psychology of Religion (1997).
