Zara Fournier is a PhD candidate in Geography at University of Tours, affiliated with the CITERES Laboratory (UMR 7314) and its EMAM team. Her research focuses on the production and reconfiguration of memory sites in conflict zones, using Beaufort Castle and Khiam Prison in South Lebanon as case studies to analyze how occupation and conflict reshape spatial memory dynamics as political and social constructs.
- Academic Background:
- MSc in International Cultural Project Management, Institut d'études politiques de Lyon
- Specialization in Contemporary Arab World
Her work bridges cultural heritage, urban geography, and post-conflict spatial reconfiguration. Publications explore themes like selective memory curation in Lebanon, collective memory in Damascus, and creative industries in Beirut. While her thesis examines conflict as a space-producing force, her prior research analyzed heritage mobilization in Cairo's urban planning and heritage-making processes in Damascus.
Her article trends highlight intersections between memory politics, heritage commodification, and urban transformation in conflict-affected regions. She actively participates in critical heritage studies conferences, including sessions on border dynamics and heritage's role in social change.
