Anna Madoeuf is a Professor of Geography at François-Rabelais University of Tours and heads the Arab World and Mediterranean Team (EMAM) within the UMR 7324 CITERES Laboratory (Cities, Territories, Environment, Societies). Her academic profile centers on urban dynamics in Mediterranean and Middle Eastern contexts, with a focus on heritage, public spaces, and socio-spatial transformations.
Her research spans Urban Geography, Heritage Studies, and Mediterranean Studies, emphasizing how cultural practices shape urban environments. Key themes include pilgrimage routes, heritage conservation in North Africa, and leisure economies in contemporary cities, reflecting interdisciplinary engagement with sociology and anthropology.
Publications reveal consistent thematic evolution: early work on urban leisure (2005) expanded to pilgrimage spaces (2010) and panoramic urban analyses (2012), demonstrating deepening regional expertise in Maghreb and Middle Eastern urbanism through collaborative editorial projects.
She leads the EMAM research team at CITERES Laboratory—a CNRS-affiliated unit—fostering studies on Mediterranean urban societies, with active conference participation including ACHS 2016's session on Marrakech's riad heritage.
