Dr. Zana Gul is a Lecturer in International Politics at the University of Stirling, joining in January 2022. She holds a Ph.D. in International Politics from the University of Sheffield and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Previously, she taught at the University of Sheffield and Edge Hill University. Her research focuses on Middle Eastern politics, particularly Iraq’s foreign policy, political factions, and transnational networks of social movements and political parties. Dr. Gul has authored a book, The Making of Foreign Policy in Iraq: Political Factions and Ruling Elites, and contributes to outlets like Studies in Conflict and Terrorism and Small Wars and Insurgencies.
Her research also explores East Asia-Middle East relations, emphasizing energy, trade, and diplomacy. She has led projects such as Charting a New Path: The Kurdistan Region of Iraq and UK Relations and received the Insight Award grant from the Scottish Council on Global Affairs. Dr. Gul teaches modules including International Conflict and Cooperation Analysis, US Foreign Policy, and Research Methods in Politics.
Her awards include the Insight Award for collaborative research on Middle Eastern peace frameworks. Dr. Gul advises postgraduate and undergraduate students and is affiliated with the Centre for Policy, Conflict and Co-operation Research (CPCCR). Her work spans global security, resilience, and cultural studies, reflecting her interdisciplinary approach to international relations.
