Associate Professor Dr. Zakaria Solaiman is an academic at The University of Western Australia (UWA), affiliated with the UWA School of Agriculture and Environment. With over 29 years of experience across Australia, Bangladesh, and Japan, he specializes in soil microbiology, antimicrobial resistance, soil health, and sustainable agricultural practices. He has held roles including Senior Research Fellow (2021–2024) and Research Fellow (2006–2015) at UWA, and previously taught as a Lecturer & Assistant Professor at Bangladesh Agricultural University (1988–1996).
Education:
- BScAg and MScAg from Bangladesh Agricultural University
- PhD in Soil Biology from Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology (1995)
Research Interests: His work focuses on antimicrobial resistance mitigation, regenerative agriculture, soil carbon sequestration, biochar applications, microbial inoculants, and organic amendments. He collaborates on UN Sustainable Development Goals related to sustainable agriculture and climate action.

- Principal Investigator for grants on antimicrobial resistance in farming systems, soil health, and agroecology
- Active projects include SAAFE CRC-funded initiatives on agricultural solutions and soil biological mechanisms

- Supervised 10 PhD candidates and co-supervised others
- Conducts research at UWA's soil health labs, focusing on microbial ecology and nutrient cycling
