Dr. Zakaria Quadir is an Associate Professor and Facility Leader at the Microscopy and Microanalysis Facility (MMF) within Curtin University's John de Laeter Centre (JdLC) and School of Civil and Mechanical Engineering. His academic career spans over 15 years, including roles as a Senior Lecturer, Facility Leader, and Research Fellow at institutions like UNSW Australia and The University of Hong Kong. He specializes in advanced materials characterization, physical metallurgy, and additive manufacturing.
Research Interests: His work focuses on metal and mineral characterization, additive manufacturing (particularly 3D printing of metals), structure-property relationships in alloys, and severe plastic deformation techniques. He has contributed significantly to understanding stress corrosion cracking in stainless steels and microstructural evolution in additively manufactured materials.
Teaching: He instructs courses such as Materials Engineering, Advanced Materials Engineering, and X-ray Diffraction techniques. His teaching aligns with his research expertise in materials science and engineering.
Publications: Dr. Quadir has authored over 100 peer-reviewed articles, with recent work emphasizing the mechanical behavior and corrosion resistance of additively manufactured alloys, hydrogen embrittlement in nickel-based alloys, and microstructural analysis of metallic materials under extreme conditions.
Labs & Teams: Leads the MMF, a state-of-the-art facility for electron microscopy and microanalysis, supporting interdisciplinary research in metallurgy, geology, and materials engineering.
