Somayeh Pasebani

Somayeh Pasebani is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical, Industrial, and Manufacturing Engineering (MIME) at Oregon State University (OSU). She directs the Powder Metallurgy and Additive Manufacturing Laboratory (PMAM) within the Advanced Technology and Manufacturing Institute (ATAMI). Her work focuses on alloy development for additive manufacturing processes, particularly selective laser melting (SLM) and binder jetting, with applications in high-temperature energy systems and functional materials.

Dr. Pasebani holds a Ph.D. in Materials Science & Engineering from the University of Idaho (2014), an M.S. from Isfahan University of Technology (2009), and a B.S. in Metallurgical Engineering (2005). She has received notable awards, including the 2017 OSU MIME Excellence Award and the TMS 2013 Best Graduate Student Poster Award. Prior to joining OSU, she worked as an Innovation Engineer at North American Hoganas, developing stainless-steel powders for additive manufacturing.

Her research interests span additive manufacturing of iron- and nickel-based alloys, oxide dispersion-strengthened (ODS) steels, and functional composites. She investigates microstructural evolution during laser processing, corrosion resistance in extreme environments, and process optimization for lattice structures and dissimilar metal joining. Her lab integrates computational modeling, experimental analysis, and industrial partnerships to advance additive manufacturing technologies.

Key projects include developing corrosion-resistant claddings for carbon steel substrates, optimizing nanoparticle dispersion in ODS alloys, and creating high-performance composites via hybrid manufacturing techniques. She has secured grants supporting her work on dissimilar metal joining mechanisms and has published extensively on topics like LPBF parameter effects, microstructural characterization, and thermal profile modeling.

Dr. Pasebani’s contributions advance additive manufacturing for aerospace, energy, and biomedical applications. Her lab collaborates with industry leaders to translate research into scalable manufacturing solutions.
