Zachary Gochenour is a Lecturer in the Department of Economics at James Madison University's College of Business. He holds a Ph.D. and dual bachelor's degrees in Economics and Mathematics from George Mason University (2014, 2006). Prior to his current role, he served as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Economics at Western Carolina University (2014–2016) and worked as an Engineer at Sensor Concepts and Applications (2006–2010).
His research focuses on political economy, economic history, and immigration policy. Key areas include the interplay between governance structures and economic outcomes, historical analyses of exclusionary policies, and the political externalities of migration. He has also explored topics like fiscal responsibility in state-level economies and the organizational dynamics of human smuggling networks.
His publications span peer-reviewed journals and critical reviews, with notable works examining salvation goods production hierarchies, North Carolina fiscal policies, and Asian exclusion in U.S. immigration history. He maintains an active engagement with interdisciplinary themes, blending economic theory with historical, religious, and institutional perspectives.
