Dr. Zachary Beck serves as Professor of English and Director of the Honors Program at East Texas Baptist University within the School of Christian Studies and Humanities. He holds a Ph.D. in American Modernism from Baylor University and completed both undergraduate and master's studies at the University of Florida.
His educational background includes:
- Undergraduate and Master's Degrees: University of Florida
- Ph.D.: Baylor University, specializing in American Modernism
Beck's research centers on American literature and modernism through the lens of Christian literary theory, investigating dialogues between orthodox Christianity and secular critical frameworks. His master's thesis juxtaposed Saint Augustine's theological works with materialist-dialectic theorists Slavoj Zizek and Alain Badiou, while subsequent scholarship applies Christian perspectives to Roland Barthes, Ngugi wa Thiong'o, and Jean Baudrillard. This interdisciplinary approach bridges faith-based analysis with literary criticism.
As Director of the Honors Program, he oversees academic enrichment for high-achieving students, though specific grant details remain undisclosed. His leadership emphasizes curricular innovation and mentorship within ETBU's honors community.
Outside academia, Beck resides in East Texas with his wife Amanda and four children, pursuing piano composition, board games, and family-oriented activities.
