Yvonne Kuipers is a Professor of Midwifery and Honorary Professor at the University of Antwerp. With over 20 years of experience in women's reproductive health, she combines clinical practice as an NMC Registered Midwife with academic roles in teaching and research across the Netherlands, Belgium, and Scotland. Her PhD (University of Maastricht, 2016) focused on developing an effective web-based intervention to address antenatal maternal distress, later adapted for Flanders.
Her research centers on woman-centered care, midwifery models of care, and emotional well-being during the transition to motherhood. Notable achievements include the ISeeYou midwifery student project (2017 award winner) and leadership in over a dozen interdisciplinary research projects (e.g., eMIND, SHIFTS, PATH). These explore digital health innovations, perinatal mental health, and midwife-led care models.
Key projects include
- METoWE: Supporting maternal life balance post-pregnancy (2017–2021)
- What's Up Mama: Online program for maternal distress (2019–2021)
- eMIND: Digitalization in healthcare (2021–2023)
Awards highlight her innovation in midwifery education and practice, including recognition for her student-led continuity of care project and contributions to evidence-based childbirth guidelines (KCE revision, 2021–2023).
