Yvette Taylor is a Professor of Education at the University of Strathclyde and a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences. Her research focuses on queer-class formations, LGBTQ+ lives, and social justice issues, with a particular emphasis on intersectional analyses of class, gender, and sexuality. She leads the RSE Personal Research Fellowship on Queer Futures: Alternative Models for Social Justice, which initiated the Queer and the Cost of Living Crisis Seminar Series.
Professor Taylor's research interests span multiple interconnected areas including working-class queers, LGBTQ+ experiences in higher education, queer social justice, and inclusive curriculum development. Her work bridges sociology, gender studies, and education through interdisciplinary approaches that examine how intersecting inequalities shape lived experiences. She has authored numerous influential publications including Working-Class Queers: Time, Place and Politics (2023) and Fitting into Place? Class and Gender Geographies and Temporalities (2012), which was honored at the Geographical Perspectives on Women Book Event at the 2012 AAG.
Her recent publications demonstrate a clear trajectory toward examining the intersection of queer lives with economic crises, educational systems, and social policy. The Queer and the Cost of Living Crisis series represents a significant contribution to understanding how LGBTQ+ communities navigate material hardships while developing alternative models for social justice. Her work consistently emphasizes the importance of community-based solutions and policy interventions that address the specific vulnerabilities faced by queer populations.
