Yvette Q. Getch

Yvette Q. Getch, Ph.D., CRC, is a Professor in the Department of Counseling and Instructional Sciences at the University of South Alabama and Coordinator of Graduate Counseling Programs (Clinical Mental Health & School). She holds a B.S. in Social Work from Florida State University (1986), an M.Ed. in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of Arkansas (1990), and a Ph.D. in Rehabilitation Education and Research from the University of Arkansas (1996). Her teaching philosophy emphasizes equity, access, and non-discrimination, with a focus on creating safe learning environments and balancing challenge with support.

Her research focuses on advocacy for marginalized populations, particularly children with chronic illnesses, disabilities, and mental health challenges. Key areas include childhood chronic illness management in schools, trauma-informed care, and fostering systemic change to reduce barriers for individuals with disabilities.
