Dr Yvette Hunt is an Honorary Research Fellow in Classics at the School of Historical and Philosophical Inquiry, The University of Queensland. Her research spans Roman imperial policy, ancient pantomime, reception of Greek culture in Roman society, religious festivals, epigraphy, and classical medical practices including poisons and amulets.
- Bachelor of Arts and Honours from The University of Queensland
- PhD in Classics (2012) focusing on imperial policies toward pantomime
Research interests include:
- Ancient pantomime and its Greek-Roman cultural synthesis
- Roman social/political history through imperial policies on entertainment
- Reception studies of Greek mythology in Roman contexts
- Medical amulets and magical practices in Roman antiquity
- Epigraphy and religious festivals across Hellenistic-Roman eras
- Classical pharmacology and poison-related historical narratives
Recent publications (2024) examine Pliny the Elder's medical works and analyze pagan-early Christian ritual continuity through amulets. Earlier works (2008-2020) trace Augustus' cultural policies, Byzantine manuscript diplomacy, and Roman theater history.
Currently available for supervision, Dr Hunt contributes to classical scholarship through textual analysis, commentary projects, and interdisciplinary approaches combining literary, epigraphic, and archaeological evidence.
