Yves Zenou is Professor of Economics and the Richard Snape Chair in Business and Economics at Monash University's Department of Economics in Melbourne, Australia. He maintains significant affiliations with the Research Institute of Industrial Economics (IFN, Stockholm), the Center for Economic Policy Research (CEPR, London), the Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA, Bonn), and the Rockwool Foundation Berlin Institute for the Economy and the Future of Work. Previously, he held professorships at Stockholm University and the University of Southampton, and served as a Visiting Professor at UC Berkeley, the European University Institute, and Tel Aviv University.
Professor Zenou's research program centers on network economics, urban and spatial economics, social interactions, and their applications to labor markets, development, and political economy. His work specifically investigates segregation and discrimination of ethnic minorities, criminality, education, and social dynamics through network theory frameworks. With over 120 publications in top-tier journals including Econometrica, Review of Economic Studies, Journal of Political Economy, and American Economic Review, his scholarship has significantly advanced the understanding of how social networks shape economic outcomes and policy effectiveness.

He previously served as Editor of Regional Science and Urban Economics (2007-2017) and Associate Editor at the Journal of European Economic Association (2012-2017), Journal of Urban Economics (2004-2018), and Journal of Public Economic Theory (2010-2020). He leads an active Australian Research Council Discovery Project on 'New Methods in Network Economics to Study Environment-Friendly Behaviours' (2024-2026) and is organizing a Summer School on Networks featuring Matt O. Jackson and Sanjeev Goyal for September 2025.
Professor Zenou maintains an extensive international research network across Europe, North America, and Asia, with recent collaborations focused on network-based approaches to understanding economic behavior, social dynamics, and policy interventions. His current research portfolio demonstrates strong alignment with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to reducing inequalities and building sustainable communities through evidence-based policy design.
