Yuzhen Fan

Dr Yuzhen Fan is a Research Fellow in the Division of Plant Sciences at The Australian National University. Their research focuses on understanding the interplay between mitochondria and C4 photosynthesis, particularly in relation to respiration processes. Dr Fan holds a PhD (2023) and BSc (2017) from ANU, both in Plant Science. Their work bridges plant physiology, biochemistry, and agricultural science, with emphasis on mitochondrial functions, respiratory metabolism, and C4 photosynthetic mechanisms.

Research interests include exploring how mitochondrial roles in C4 photosynthesis affect respiratory pathways, substrate utilization in C3/C4 grasses, and environmental impacts on plant respiration. Dr Fan collaborates extensively, contributing to studies on wheat respiration in diverse climates and heatwave effects on plant physiology. They are registered to supervise research students and have published widely in journals like Plant Physiology and Journal of Experimental Botany.
